Inaugural UNIDO-UNEP RECP Meeting

The Ecodesign Centre (EDC) are continuing discussions on innovative results-oriented approaches to capacity building for ecodesign with United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) http://www.unido.org/) and United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) (http://www.unep.org/).  Frank received a special invite to join the inaugural UNIDO-UNEP Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) Meeting in Switzerland in October. The UNIDO-UNEP joint program on RECP aims to improve resource efficiency and environmental performance of businesses and other organizations.  This invite enabled EDC to directly engage with the directors of cleaner production centres in over 40 developing and transition countries along with building networks across the globe with other centres offering specialist resource efficiency services.  Dr. Frank O’Connor delivered a workshop on the wider benefits of ecodesign, from policy through to embedding in mainstream education and implementation in industry.  A number of opportunities for collaboration and knowledge transfer were identified which will be scoped out further in 2010.
