Joint Actions on Climate Change Conference
EDC attended, presented a paper at and ran a facilitated workshop for environmental researchers and practitioners at the international conference: Joint Actions on Climate Change.
The conference, held in Denmark 8 – 10 June 2009, aimed to encourage dialogue, bridge gaps in views and positions and set targets for the United Nations COP15 Climate Change conference in December. The conference attracted a diverse group of international stakeholders including governments, industry, retailers, researchers as well as NGOs, consumer organisations and the financial sector.
Simon O'Rafferty, EDC Senior Research Officer, presented a paper titled “The Creativity Gap: Bridging Creativity, Design and Sustainable Innovation”. This presentation set out the importance of encouraging creativity and design as a response to climate change. Dr. Frank O’Connor, Director of EDC, and Simon then ran a facilitated workshop with a collection of researchers and practitioners from across Europe and Australia. This workshop aimed to take stock of what is happening now in relation to ecodesign in business and policy.
Funding to travel to the conference was given to EDC by the Wales European Collaboration Fund: Travel Bursary which is funded by the WAG and administrated by the Enterprise Europe Network Wales. This fund will support travel overseas to negotiate European funding related to Framework 7 Programme (FP7) projects or Technology Transfer agreements. It will also fund travel to attend focussed conferences and exhibitions. The fund is available to all Welsh-based businesses and Higher Education Institutions with capacity in their Welsh site to participate in the proposed project.
